Jan Overduin Invites You to "Fantasia Apocalyptica"

July 18, 2017

Have we got a treat for you! We’ve just published "Jan Overduin Invites You to 'Fantasia Apocalyptica’” on First United Church’s YouTube Channel.

This is a video that Jan and I have been working on for several months now in order to invite you all to a very important event at First United - and we’re giving you lots of advance notice so you can clear your calendar for the particular date.

Jan Overduin - Organist Emeritus at First United Church in Waterloo - provides a fascinating introduction and invitation to Don Knuth's brand new major composition for the organ, "Fantasia Apocalyptica".

Don Knuth, a computer scientist, organist and composer living in California, created this musical interpretation of the Book of Revelation and will see the World Premiere of this remarkable work in Pitea, Sweden on January 10th, 2018 at Studio Acusticum. Don has asked Jan Overduin to perform the piece.

Following that on November 4th, 2018, Jan will be performing the North American Premiere on the Gabriel Kney organ at First United Church in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

In this video, Jan gives the viewer a behind-the-scenes introduction to the art and craft employed by the composer in creating a "literally amazing" interpretation of John of Patmos's book of Revelation from the Christian Bible. Citing such varied sources as Tchaikovsky, Charles Gounod, Antonin Dvorak and Bruce Springsteen, Jan provides a glimpse of the creative processes that went into the creation of "Fantasia Apocalyptica”.
