Pastoral Care

Our Community of Caring

Pastoral Care is an essential ministry at First United, encompassing care for both our church family and others in our community. Our team of volunteers provide many different programs to meet the needs of our extended community.

  • Our Pastoral Care Visitors and ministers will visit those who are ill, bereaved, or in crisis. Visits can take place at home, in the hospital, at the church, or at another location.
  • Our Pastoral Care Visitors make monthly visits to about 30 homebound people.
  • 44 District Visitors deliver the church newsletter, First Word, 3 times a year to the congregation.
  • Home Communion is provided by one of our ministers or pastoral care visitors, for those who aren't able to join us at church.

  • Our Card Ministry recognizes times of celebration (birthdays 80, 85, 90 and then annually; baptisms, weddings, confirmation) and of sadness (illness or grief).
  • Our Prayer Shawl Ministry provides beautiful shawls made prayerfully for those who need comfort.
  • Foot Care is available at the church on the second Monday morning.
  • The Irene Welsh Taxi Fund is available for those who are unable to drive, to assist them in attending church events.

  • Each May, we host a special 80s, 90s, 100s Celebration during our regular worship service, to honour our seniors.
  • We host regular Visitor Appreciation events, including guest speakers and entertainment, to thank our Pastoral Care Visitors.
  • Ongoing Workshops and Speakers are offered, on topics relevant to pastoral care.

If you are in need of pastoral care, please contact the church office. We would be glad to help.
