The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek follows Cussy Mary Carter, a traveling librarian in 1930s Kentucky, working with Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project. As the last of the blue-skinned people of Kentucky, Cussy faces deep-seated prejudice and suspicion. Despite the challenges, she is determined to deliver books and knowledge to the isolated mountain communities. Inspired by real history, the novel highlights themes of resilience, discrimination, and the transformative power of books.
