St. Mark's Place

As the weather turns colder many of us are thinking about those most vulnerable in our community who do not have housing in the midst of the current housing crisis. We want to assist in some way but at times aren’t quite sure how best to help.

In this invitation, Indwell would like to offer two ways for you to practically help as Indwell opens St. Mark’s Place here in Kitchener next month. St. Mark’s Place is a new 43 unit supportive affordable apartment community located at 825 King Street West here in Kitchener.

Tenants will begin moving in throughout the month of December and we are excited to welcome them to their new home!
We are pleased to invite you to join us in welcoming our new tenants in two specific ways:

  • Volunteer to put furniture together or do light cleaning in our new apartments.
  • Provide pantry items to stock the kitchen cabinets of our new tenants.

Volunteer Furniture Assembly Opportunities

We invite you to help us prepare apartments for our new tenants moving into St. Mark’s Place. We welcome volunteers of all experience and skills.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for groups of friends, work colleagues, faith groups and families to practically help people in our community.

You will join a team to set up furniture in our furnished apartments, put together kitchen kits, do light dusting or mopping, or unwrap and wipe down appliances. We have four 3-hour volunteer sessions at different times to offer a few different time and day options.

  • Tuesday, December 5, 9 am-Noon
  • Tuesday, December 5, 1-4 pm
  • Wednesday, December 6, 1-4pm
  • Wednesday, December 6, 6-9pm

Please sign up - here.

Fill a Pantry

We would love to welcome our tenants into their new homes as they start their journey towards health and wellness not only with apartments that are fully furnished, but with full pantries too!

We’ve created a list of pantry items that we know will be most useful for our tenants.

Please feel free to join forces with friends, neighbours, or co-workers to put together a full list for one or two apartments; or give what you wish from the list on your own.

Most of our tenants arriving at St. Mark’s Place will be coming from homelessness, hospital or incarceration and have very little. Filling their kitchen pantry will give our tenants a good start in their new homes knowing that their cupboards are full and apartments ready.

If you have questions about the pantry items, please contact our St. Mark’s Place Food Program Facilitator Bill MacTavish at bhmactavish@indwell.ca. Please feel free to forward this request to other organizations or people you know who might be interested.

If you have any questions please contact me – mwillcock@indwell.ca.

Thank you for your support of Indwell. We look forward to working with you!

PS. We are still hiring for several positions at St. Mark’s Place. Please see positions and apply online here: https://indwell.ca/jobs/
