A Sweet Celebration of Cultures: Intercultural Dessert Table Delights

Following our Asian Heritage Month service, the congregation gathered for a Special Intercultural Lunch that was truly a feast for the senses. The highlight of the gathering was an extraordinary dessert table featuring handmade sweets from Syria, Iran, India, and Korea—each prepared with care by members of our own community.

  • Venus offered a beautiful array of Syrian desserts, including walnut maamoul, basbousa, and kanafa.

  • Amin shared traditional Iranian sweets such as shirini khormaei, gaz, and shirini moraba’i.

  • Rahul brought assorted Indian treats in decorative boxes, filled with colourful barfis, gulab jamun, and laddoos.

  • Hoeun contributed a variety of Korean rice snacks and cookies, including yakgwa, yugwa, and crispy shell-shaped chips.

Each dessert was labelled with ingredients and cultural context, inviting people to taste and learn. Tables were decorated with national flags, and the atmosphere buzzed with curiosity, gratitude, and joyful conversation.

This shared table was more than just delicious—it was a tangible expression of our commitment to intercultural friendship, hospitality, and learning. Many commented that it was not only a treat for the tastebuds, but also a beautiful symbol of what it means to be church together in diversity.

A heartfelt thank you to Venus, Amin, Rahul and Hoeun for your generosity and for reminding us that God's table is abundant—and everyone belongs.
